Classie Yancey Hilliard

Mrs. Classie Yancey Hilliard, 81, of Arlington entered eternal rest on Sunday, May 29, 2016 at the Cherrydale Health & Rehabilitation Center in Arlington.   Mrs. Hilliard was born in Granville County, NC on May 22, 1935 to the late Nelson and Esmon Pointer Yancey. She was educated in the Granville County Public Schools and at an early age joined The New Jonathan Creek Baptist Church in Oxford, N.C. where she and her siblings formed a Gospel Quartet. She retired from Culpepper Gardens Senior Residential Community in Arlington in the 1990’s.   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Hilliard, Sr.; one son, Curtis Hilliard; four brothers, Leo, Willie, Floyd and George Yancey and one sister; Melissa M. Burwell.   She leaves to cherish her loving memory four children, Marion Hilliard, Jr. (Deborah) of Dumfries, VA, Joyce Hilliard-Bowles (Fred)  and Roy Hilliard (Dorothy)  all of Arlington, VA and Estelle Hilliard-Martin (Anthony) of Woodbridge, VA; eleven  grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren;   two sisters,  Annie and Daisy Hilliard  both of  Clarksville, VA; one daughter-in-law, Teresa Lansdown-Hilliard and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.    Funeral services for Mrs. Classie Yancey Hilliard will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 11, 2016 at St. John Baptist Church, Buffalo Junction, VA with Rev. DeMario Covington, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Public viewing on Friday, 10:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M.   Arrangements are by C. H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
