Mr. Charlie Pettus, 96, of Red Oak, VA entered eternal rest Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Halifax Regional Hospital, South Boston, VA. Mr. Pettus was born in Charlotte County, VA April 15, 1916 to the late Jordan and Mary Pettus. He attended Charlotte County Schools and was a member of Salem Baptist Church, Red Oak, VA. He was formerly employed at Morgan Lumber Company. In addition to his parents, Mr. Pettus was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Mae Mosley and three children, Susan Garrett, Cornell and Leon Pettus. Cherishing his memories are two daughters, Pearl Wooden (Raymond) of Clover, VA, and Mary Ann Brooks, of Red Oak, VA; three sons, Ronnie Pettus (Annette) of La Plata, MD, Leroy Pettus (Dorothy) of Washington, DC and Charlie Pettus, Jr. (Terussell) of Red Oak, VA; 26 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lizzie Mae Smithson of Clarksville, VA; one brother-in-law, Joshua Carden of Scottsburg, VA and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mr. Charlie Pettus will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at Salem Baptist Church, Red Oak, VA with Rev. Roger Allen, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 7 P.M. at the funeral home. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
