Mr. Charlie “Flash” Hayes, 83, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on Saturday, August 17, 2019 in Richmond, VA. Mr. Hayes was born in Finchley, VA on April 25, 1936 to the late Charlie Woodley and Maggie Hayes He attended the schools of Mecklenburg County, VA, and retired from Sam Hardy Sawmill as a machine operator. Mr. Hayes enjoyed listening to music and dancing, and reminiscing about old times. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hayes was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Hayes, and two sisters, Emma and Rosa Hayes. Cherishing his memories are his ten children, Ray Charles Hayes of Northern Virginia, Elvis Hayes (Annette) and Mary Hayes all of Chase City, VA, Hollis Hayes of Richmond, VA, Sandra Hayes of Baltimore, MD, Larry D. Hayes of California, Joyce C. Hayes and Bonnie L. Hayes both of Washington, DC, James Hayes of Charlottesville, VA and Arthur E. Hayes (Sheila) of Raleigh, NC; a stepson, Robert Smith, Sr. of Bracey, VA; 20 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren; two sisters and brother, Joyce Woodley Moore, Lisa Woodley and Mark Woodley all of Little Washington, NC, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mr. Charlie Hayes will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Friday, August 23, 2019 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City, VA with Rev. Linda Goode delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Chase City, VA. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
