Charles Williams Watkins

Mr. Charles Williams Watkins, 77, of Newark, NJ and formerly of Mecklenburg County VA entered eternal rest on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at his residence.

Mr. Watkins was born in Mecklenburg County, VA on January 22, 1946 to the late Nettie Revis and Eva Bell Watkins. He received his early education in the schools of Mecklenburg County, and later relocated to New Jersey. In his earlier years, Mr. Watkins worked in the logging business, and later as a professional truck driver and heavy equipment operator, retiring after many years of dedicated service. In his spare time, he enjoyed riding motorcycles.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Nettie Gregory, Ann Watkins, Edith Watkins and Diana W. Green and two brothers, David Watkins and John Lee Tisdale.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory three sons, Anthony Charles Hurt of Chase City, VA, Glenn J. Townes of Sterling, VA and Wilson L. Townes of Newark, NJ; one daughter, Tamira Tims of Newark, NJ; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ray Watkins and Willie Ben Tisdale; three sisters, Lorene Stanford, Rebecca House and Jenny B. Ferguson, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Charles Williams Watkins will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City, VA with Rev. Andy Hargrove officiating. Burial will follow in West View East Cemetery, South Hill, VA.
