Deacon Charles Curtis Newton, Sr., 60, of Clarksville, VA entered eternal rest Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at Ashland Nursing and Rehab Center, Ashland, VA. Deacon Newton was born in Mecklenburg County, VA July 11, 1953 to the late Albert Sr. and Annie Carrington Newton. He was a graduate of Bluestone Senior High School, Skipwith, VA and attended Danville Community and Southside Virginia Community College. Deacon Newton was a member of Cherry Hill Baptist Church, Buffalo Junction, VA. He was a former corrections officer at Mecklenburg Correctional Center and a receptionist at Lake Motel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Gertrude Hoffman and Meredith Adams and five brothers, Tony Newton Milton Newton, Frank Newton, Howard Newton and Harold Newton. Cherishing his memories are his children, Chartoya Newton of Prince George, VA, Charles Newton, Jr. (Tayana) of Lithonia, GA and Chauncey Newton (Chrisangela) of Snellville, GA; eight grandchildren, Te’Ara, Tamara, Damonte, Demetrius, Jordan, Cadence, Caelynn and Cailey; two brothers, Albert Newton (Beverly) of Atlanta, GA and Joe Newton (Ann) of East Orange, NJ; one sister, Viola Davis (Stanford) of Irvington, NJ; devoted friend, Mary Brooks and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Deacon Charles Curtis Newton, Sr. will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Cherry Hill Baptist Church, Buffalo Junction, VA with Rev. Raymond Dowdy, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be Friday from 10:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are by C. H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Clarksville, VA. Service 2:00 P.M.
