Ms. Camerella Oliver entered eternal rest on October 12, 2022.


Ms. Oliver, affectionately known as “Cam”, was born February 08, 1947 in Farmville, VA to the late Bessie Burton Oliver and Murray Laurney Oliver. She graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School, Washington, DC and matriculated to Hampton University, earning her Bachelor’s Degree as a Registered Nurse. She continued her education by attending Boston University, graduating with a Master’s Degree in Nursing. She later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from the University of Maryland Global Campus.


Ms. Oliver held various jobs throughout her career. She was a research Analyst for Blue Cross BlueShield, and successfully implemented a statewide Sickle Cell Anemia genetics screening program. Ms. Oliver returned to Hampton University as a teacher in both the classroom and clinical practice. She also served as a nurse instructor at Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama. She was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church in Largo, MD where she was a valued member in the Women’s Ministry group. Prior to joining Metropolitan, Ms. Oliver was an active member of the Whiterock Baptist Church in Durham, NC and the Greater Framingham Community Church in Framingham, MA.


Ms. Oliver was dedicated to her family and was very loyal to her friends. She considered herself a bit of the family historian, and loved attending family gatherings, graduations, and celebrations. She also expressed a deep passion on community resources and providing support for underserved communities; maternal health; and the impact of racism on public healthcare.


Left to cherish her beautiful smile, compassion, and fun-loving spirit are two younger brothers, Gerald Oliver and Raymond Oliver; six nieces and nephews, Eleanor, Daniel, Gerald II, Cicely, Andwele, and Jibreel, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.


A memorial service for Ms. Camerella Oliver was conducted 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at Metropolitan Baptist Church in Largo, MD with Rev. Dr. Jesse L. Wood, Executive Pastor officiating.


Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
