Mrs. Byrd Smith Staten, 56, of Concord, NC entered eternal rest on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at Atrium Health Cabarrus, Concord, NC.


Mrs. Staten was born in Mecklenburg County, VA on July 14, 1967 to the late Charlie, Jr. and Catherine Russell Smith. At an early age she was baptized and joined Rocky Mount Baptist Church, Skipwith, VA. Mrs. Staten received her education in the Mecklenburg County school system, and graduated from Bluestone Senior High School in 1985. She relocated to Yonkers, NY with her family for better career opportunities, gaining employment with General Motors Acceptance Corporation (GMAC) for numerous years. She later settled in North Carolina where she returned to college and earned an Applied Science in Radiography Degree from Johnston Community College in 2011. After earning her associate’s degree, she worked as an X-Ray Technician, Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist and a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technician for hospitals in Clayton, Raleigh, and Charlotte, NC.


In addition to her parents, Mrs. Staten was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald J. Smith; sister, Pamala Smith Hatcher, and her paternal grandmother, Ineas Smith.


She leaves to cherish her memories her loving husband, Henry L. Staten, Sr. of Concord, NC; two sons, Henry L. Staten, Jr. and Jerrid M. Staten both of Concord, NC; three brothers, Charles L. Smith (Juanita), Samuel M. Smith (Helene) and Russell T. Smith; one sister, Yolanda R. Staten, four brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.


Funeral services for Mrs. Byrd Smith Staten will be conducted 12:00 Noon on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Rocky Mount Baptist Church, Skipwith, VA with Rev. Dennis King, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Friday from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.


Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
