Brenda Gayles Washington

Ms. Brenda Gayles Washington, 70, of South Hill, VA entered eternal rest Sunday, June 11, 2017 at VCU/MCV Hospital, Richmond, VA. Ms. Washington was born in Chase City, VA March 30, 1947 to the late Rankin Lee and Virginia Gayles. She received her early education in the Mecklenburg County Public Schools, and upon relocating to Newark, NJ attended Essex County Schools. Ms. Washington was formerly employed by Burlington Industries, Clarksville, VA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Valerie Washington; brother, Roger Gayles; sister, Sharon Walker and niece, Tameka Walker. Cherishing her memories are her children, Douglas of Richmond, VA; Robin of San Diego, CA and Tanya of Ocean Side, CA; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Laverne Keene (Melvin) of Pennsylvania and Hilda Smallwood of Williamston, NC; brothers, Anthony (Anna) and Keith of Chase City, VA; her fiancé, Merlin Burchette and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. A memorial service for Ms. Brenda Gayles Washington will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 15, 2017 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City, VA with Rev. Cedric Gayles, officiating. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
