Birbridge Tyree Wood

Mr. Birbridge Tyree Wood, 80, affectionately known as “Tyree” of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on Monday, July 04, 2016 at PruittHealth, Raleigh, NC. Mr. Wood was born in Chase City, VA on December 18, 1935 to the late Henry C. and Annella Hardy Wood. He was a 1953 graduate of the Thyne Institute in Chase City, VA and a member of Concord Baptist Church, Chase City, where he served on the Male Chorus, Mass Choir, and Finance Ministry; he was also Chairman of the Trustee and Transportation Ministries. Mr. Wood was a former employee of the United States Postal Service in Jersey City, NJ, retiring after 29 years as a Vehicle Analyst. Upon retiring and relocating back to Virginia, he worked for Lake Country Area Agency on Aging and Mosley Transportation. Mr. Wood was a veteran of the United States Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Little Miss Alliyah Douglas Wood. Cherishing his memories are his wife of 48 years, Nancy Chavis Wood; two sons, Karl Wood and Brian Wood (Katrina); two grandchildren, Amari Wood and Justin Griffis; one sister, Brenda Squire; three sisters-in-law, Mary Bullock, Dorothy Chavis and Mozelle C. Wood; two brothers-in-law, Roosevelt Chavis and George Bullock and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. A graveside memorial service for Mr. Birbridge Tyree Wood will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Friday, July 8, 2016 at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery, Chase City with Rev. Raleigh M. Bagley, III, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Concord Baptist Church Building Fund, 11422 Highway 47, Chase City, VA 23924.
