Bettye Jean Sands Crutchfield

Mrs. Bettye Jean Sands Crutchfield, 83, of Boydton, VA entered eternal rest on Sunday, May 3, 2020 at Sentara Meadowview Terrace in Clarksville, VA. Mrs. Crutchfield was born in Shelby, NC on December 3, 1936 to the late Willie Frank and Hattie Belle Sands. She received her early education in the historic Thyne Institute in Chase City, and was a 1955 graduate of West End High School in Skipwith, VA. At an early age, she joined Greater Union Baptist Church in Chase City, later joining Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church where she served in the capacity of church clerk and as an elder. Mrs. Crutchfield was a retiree of Burlington Industries in Clarksville, VA with 32 years of service. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Crutchfield was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Edward Crutchfield, Sr., two brothers and one sister. She leaves to cherish her loving memories her two children, Thomas E. Crutchfield, Jr. of Boydton, VA and Deborah C. Duncan (Roger) of Boydton, VA; six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Geneva Tucker of New Jersey and Shirley Hester (Joseph) of Chase City; two sisters-in-law, Edith Simms (Alva) of Williamsburg, VA and Clara Sands of Chase City, VA; a host of nieces and nephews; special friend, Brenda Howerton, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Due to the mandates from Governor Ralph Northam, a private graveside service was conducted Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at the Crutchfield Family Cemetery, Boydton, VA with Rev. Linda Goode delivering the eulogy. Public viewing was held on Tuesday from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Arrangements are by C. H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Clarksville, VA.
