Bessie Louise Evans

Mrs. Bessie Louise Evans, 98, affectionately known as “Big Ma”, of Boydton, VA entered eternal rest on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the residence. Mrs. Evans was born in Mecklenburg County, VA on December 5, 1918 to the late Jim and Mary Lena Thompson Evans. She attended Greenwood School, and at an early age she joined Shiloh Baptist Church, Boydton, VA. She later joined Jerusalem Temple United Holy Church, Boydton, VA where she served as Church Mother, President of the Senior Choir, Head of the Prayer Warriors and Convocation Solicitor. Mrs. Evans was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney A. Evans; one son, Melvin Evans and four daughters, Annie Mosley, Carrie Hill, Mary Evans and Doretha Evans. Cherishing her memories are three daughters, Willie Mae Richardson of Boydton, VA, Magdalene Bowens (Charles) of Richmond, VA and Doris E. Allen (Elder Charles) of Clarksville, VA; 20 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice Benjamin of Capitol Heights, MD; daughter-in-law, Rev. Dr. JoAnne Evans of Richmond, VA; sister-in-law, Eunice Evans of Boydton, VA and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral Services for Mrs. Bessie Louise Evans will be conducted 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Jerusalem Temple UHC, Boydton, VA with Elder Charles D. Allen delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are by C. H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Clarksville, VA.
