Mrs. Annie S. Wright entered eternal rest Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at Halifax Regional Hospital, South Boston, VA. Mrs. Wright was born September 26, 1921, in Chase City, Virginia to the late Frank Smith Sr. and Annie Smith Walker. She was affectionately known as “Annie B.” by many of her friends and family. At an early age she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior. She was baptized and remained a lifetime member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church. She was a Sunday school and Bible School Teacher, member of the missionary circle, and a deaconess. Annie graduated from the Thyne Institute and continued her education at Saint Paul’s College, Lawrenceville, VA. She received her B.S. degree from Virginia Union University, Richmond, VA. Her teaching career began in a one room school, teaching first through fifth graders. Later in her career she taught the second grade. She was proud of the fact that for several years student’s she taught would win the Spelling Bee for the school and on the county level. She was recognized by Outstanding Elementary Teachers of America in recognition of contributions to the advancement of elementary education and service to the community. She retired after forty- Four years of service in the Mecklenburg County Public Schools. Annie loved her family, home, and church. Many years before becoming ill she took pride in activities including planting flowers, cooking, and housekeeping. She enjoyed traveling with her family, and preparing for family events and holidays. She opened the doors of her home to ministers of the church, their families and guest. She prepared and served meals in her home to ministers and their guest after church on Sundays and during annual revival services. Mrs. Wright is survived by her husband of 62 years, James (Chris) Wright of Chase City, VA; one daughter, Jacqueline Christobel (Thomas), of Fredericksburg, VA.; two granddaughters, Christal of Richmond, VA. and Kimberly of Silver Spring, MD.; one sister, Dorothy Smith of Chase City, VA.; and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Annie S. Wright will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 2, 2009 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Chase City, VA with Rev. Ricky A. Lee, officiating. Burial will follow in Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Chase City, VA. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1304 North Main St., Chase City, VA.
