Mrs. Anna Mae Glover, 93, of Philadelphia, PA and formerly of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest Saturday, April 3, 2010 in Philadelphia, PA. Mrs. Glover, was born November 20, 1916, in Chase City Virginia; the seventh child of eight born to the late Frances Elam Toombs and James Toombs. She attended the public schools of Mecklenburg County Virginia. At an early age she joined the Bethlehem Baptist Church. By the young age of 15, Anna came to Philadelphia to work. She met and married the late Jasper Glover. Together they raised five sons, Wilson, Nathaniel, Sidney, Herbert (deceased) and Anthony. While residing in Philadelphia, Anna Mae joined Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Upon moving to Glenolden, in 1954, Anna Mae and her husband attended both Mt. Carmel of Philadelphia and Ebenezer A.M.E of Glenolden. In 1999, she joined the First Baptist Church of Oakeola, under the late Pastor Edward E. Grant, where she remained until her death. She was a homemaker who loved gardening, cooking and canning. She was well known for making her famous homemade rolls and deep dish pies. Cherishing her beautiful memories are her devoted sons, Wilson (Mary), Nathaniel (Essie), Sidney (Carol), Herbert (proceeded her in death)( Denise), Anthony (Kittie), one sister, Alice Robinson, Philadelphia; 15 grandchildren, 1 grandchild proceeded her in death, Sidney Jr., (Bip), 28 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A graveside funeral service will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Chase City, VA with Rev. Dr. James E. Scott, officiating. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
