Angela La Vonia Farrar

Dr. Angela LaVonia Farrar departed this life Friday, August 20, 2009.  She was born August 24, 1966 in Danville, Virginia. Angie attended the public schools of Pittsylvania County.  She received her B.S. and PhD Degrees from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.  She was employed by Pennsylvania State University and the University of Nevada at Las Vegas as a professor in the Hotel Restaurant and Institutional Management Departments. Angela joined Elba Baptist Church in Gretna, Virginia and was very active as a member of the junior choir, ushers, Sunday School, Girl Scouts, 4H Club of America and played piano for the Sunday School.  She joined Zion Baptist Church in Petersburg, Virginia before leaving for college.  She later joined the Center for Spiritual Living in Las Vegas, Nevada where she became a member of the board of trustees. Angela was a member of the following professional and community organizations:  Faculty Development in Human Resources, International Council on Restaurants and Institutional Education, Certified Hospitality Educators, Society for Human Resources Management and The National Ministries Planners and Convention. Angela is survived by her parents, Andrew and Mavis Wray Farrar of Prince George, VA; several aunts, Annie (David) Mosley of Lynchburg, VA; Audrey (Robert) Clayton of Richmond, VA; Annette (Reeves) Dudley of Dayton, OH; Essie Lassister of Zebulon,  NC; Ilah Pou, Florence (Joseph) Freeman and Dorcus Wray of  Raleigh, NC; two uncles, Albert (Verline) Farrar of Huntsville, AL; and Arthur (Elizabeth) Farrar; and a host of cousins and other relatives and co-workers. A graveside memorial service will be held at the Oakhurst Cemetery in Clarksville, VA on Tuesday, September 1st at 11:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Children Home of Virginia, 6900 Hickory Road, Petersburg, VA 23803; or to the Dr. Angela Farrar Memorial Scholarship Endowment at the University of Nevada, Hotel & Restaurant Departments, 4505 Maryland Parkway, Box 456021, Las Vegas, NV 89154-6021. Arrangements are by C. H. Harris Funeral Home, Clarksville, VA.
