Alma Skipper Staten

Mrs. Alma Skipper Staten, 93, of Saxe, VA entered eternal rest on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Wayland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Keysville, VA. Mrs. Staten was born in Charlotte County, VA on October 1, 1927 to the late Lonnie and Mattie Saunders Skipper. She attended the schools of Charlotte County, VA, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Wylliesburg, VA. While there, she sang on the choir, and was known for her Mother’s Day program. Mrs. Staten was formerly employed by Russell Stover Candies in Clarksville, VA, and in her spare time enjoyed cooking and watching Wheel of Fortune. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Staten, Sr., children, Joseph, Gracie, Shirley and Nathaniel; grandchildren, Linda and Chris, and her siblings. She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Dennis Staten (Grindl) of Drakes Branch, VA; seventeen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren; devoted friend, Bernadine Saunders, and a host of other loving relatives and caring friends. Graveside services for Mrs. Alma Skipper Staten will be conducted 3:00 P.M. Sunday, April 25, 2021 at First Baptist Church Cemetery, Drakes Branch, VA with Rev. John Craighead officiating. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Saturday from 2 until 6 PM. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a mask will be required for all viewings and services. We ask that you adhere to all guidelines, and practice social distancing. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City VA.
