Mrs. Alice Atkins Winkler (Nay) peacefully went home to glory on Friday, February 26, 2021 at her residence in Skipwith, VA. Mrs. Winkler was born January 7, 1934 in Mecklenburg County, VA to the late Joe and Robbie Crowell Atkins. She attended Holly Rock School in Skipwith, VA. She was baptized at an early age and became a faithful member of New Light Baptist Church, Skipwith, VA, until her health declined. Mrs. Winkler served there as treasurer for 33 years, as Vice President of the Missionary Committee, and as Trustee of the church. She married the late Stephen Winkler, Jr., and to their union, eight children were born. In addition to her parents and husband, Alice was preceded in death by three sons, Charles, Harry Lee, and Larry Winkler; two sisters, Katherine Hutchinson and Martha Webb; and three brothers, Lewis, Roy and Robert Atkins. She leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters, Mary Craddock (Pulsome) of Skipwith, VA and Carolyn Tucker (Larry) of Chase City, VA; three sons, John “Frank” Winkler and Steve Winkler (Olivia) all of Skipwith, VA and Bobby Winkler (Wendy) of Richmond, VA; thirteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren; one brother, Linwood Atkins (Renail) of Chase City, VA, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Graveside services will be conducted 1:00 PM Thursday, March 4, 2021 at New Light Baptist Church Cemetery, Skipwith, VA with Rev. Marvin Harris, officiating. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Wednesday from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a mask will be required for all viewings and services. We ask that you adhere to all guidelines, and practice social distancing. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
