Albert Daniel Atkins

Mr. Albert Daniel Atkins, 82, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest Monday, November 4, 2013 at Hunter Homes McGuire Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Richmond, VA. Mr. Atkins was born in Charlotte County, VA September 25, 1931 to the late Herbert and Grace Watkins Atkins.  He graduated from Charlotte County Public Schools and attended St. Paul’s College in Lawrenceville, VA.  Mr. Atkins was a United States Army Veteran and member of Salem Baptist Church, Red Oak, VA, where he served on the deacon board. He retired from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) as an Engineering Technician. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Alton Atkins, Sr. and three sisters. Cherishing his memories are his wife of 56 years, Albena Atkins of Chase City, VA; two children, Rufus  Atkins (Lisa) of Petersburg, VA and Albertine Atkins-Childress of Woodbridge, VA;  one daughter-in-law, Lisa Atkins of Baltimore, MD; three sisters, I. Belle Atkins and Helen Gibson of Red Oak, VA and Venoy Barbour of West Babylon, NY; one brother, Robert Atkins of Baltimore, MD; one sister-in-law and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mr. Albert Daniel Atkins will be conducted  2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Salem Baptist Church, Red Oak, VA with Rev. Roger L. Allen, officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing for family and friends Friday from 10:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.  Service 2:00 P.M.  Saturday, November 9, 2013 Salem Baptist Church Red Oak, VA Interment Church Cemetery Viewing Friday 10:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M.
