Shirley Canada Jones

Mrs. Shirley Canada Jones, 66, of Skipwith, VA went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 12, 2009 in University of North Carolina Hospital, Chapel Hill, NC.   Mrs. Jones was born in Nathalie, VA, March 17, 1943 to the late Floyd A. and Mary B. Canada.  She was a 1965 graduate of Virginia State University, Petersburg, VA with a B. S. degree in Mathematics.  She also was a 1982 graduate of Longwood University Farmville, VA with a M. S. degree in School Administration.  She taught in the public schools of Mecklenburg, Halifax, and Lunenburg Counties for a total of 28 years until her health diminished, and she retired in 1993.  She was presently serving as Treasurer of the Mecklenburg-Brunswick Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Jones was a devoted member of Cherry Hill Baptist Church where she served as President of the Youth Ministry and as President of the Women’s Missionary.   Cherishing her memories are her husband of 44 years, Charles E. Jones of Skipwith, VA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Adrian Jones (Jodi) of Leesburg, VA and Ron Jones (Gillian) of Bristow VA; three grandchildren, Adriana, Jada and Joshua Jones; two sisters, Christine Garrett and Connie M. Jones, two brothers, James A. and Johnnie E. Canada all of Halifax County VA and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.   Funeral services for Mrs. Shirley Canada Jones will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 16, 2009 at Cherry Hill Baptist Church, Buffalo Junction, VA with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 until 7:00 P. M., at C. H. Harris Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to her favorite charity, United Negro College Fund, P.O.
