Royal Alvester Brooks

Mr. Royal Alvester Brooks, 68, of Red Oak, VA departed this life Friday, January 5, 2018 at Sentra Halifax Regional Hospital, South Boston, VA. Mr. Brooks was born in Charlotte County, VA June 10, 1949 to the late Howard and Marie Carrington Brooks. He attended the public schools of Charlotte County, VA; was a member of Salem Baptist Church, Red Oak, VA and a member of Laconia Masonic Lodge # 208. Mr. Brooks was previously employed by Jonbil Inc., Georgia Pacific and Burlington Industries. Royal loved to hunt, fish and attend baseball games. In April 1970 he married Edna Brooks, this union was blessed with two children. In addition to his parents, Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by six brothers, one sister and three grandchildren. Left to cherish his memories are his children, Kenneth Brooks of South Boston, VA, Chante Brooks of Randolph, VA, Patricia Wood (Vernon) and Jeffrey Bullock of Richmond, VA, Torrie Long of Iowa and Kezeria Taylor of Red Oak, VA; 15 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sisters, Jennie Clayton (Leamon) of Richmond, VA and Annie Hardy (Alfred) of Chase City, VA; brothers, Roderick Brooks (Euradina) of Red Oak, VA and Michael Brooks of Jackson, TN; sister-in-law, Bobbie Brooks of Red Oak, VA; devoted friend, Shirley Bullock and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Salem Baptist Church, Red Oak, VA with Rev. Roger L. Allen officiating. Burial with masonic rites will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing for family and friends will be on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until 7:00 PM. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
