Minnie Alice Oliver

Mrs. Minnie Alice Oliver, 91, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Halifax Regional Hospital, South Boston, VA. Mrs. Oliver was born in Charlotte Court House, VA March 1, 1919 to the late George Washington and Cora Marable Smith. She was a member of Bluestone Baptist Church, Chase City, VA. For many years she was an active member of the Missionary and church choir. Mrs. Oliver loved music, played piano and was well known locally for her prize-winning arts and crafts and wonderful culinary skills. She and her husband were featured as a couple in one of their regional magazines Cherishing her memories are five sons, Louis Russell Oliver of Chase City, VA, Irvin W. Oliver (Sheena) of Danville, VA, Gordon W. Oliver (Dorothy) of Chesterfield, VA, David L. Oliver of Vienna, VA and Milton D. Oliver (Harriet) of Huntsville, AL; Two daughters, Nellie M. James (Roland) of Roxboro, NC and Anne E. Oliver of Charlottesville, VA; 15  grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Myrtle Milteer of East Orange, NJ, one sister-in-law, Lena Walker of Chase City, VA and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Alice Oliver will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 6, 2011 at the Oliver Family Cemetery, 614 Tinker Road, Chase City, VA. with Rev. Lawrence T. Wilkerson, officiating. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
