Mr. Charles Andrew Watson, affectionately known as “Chuck”, age 58, of McKenney, VA transitioned from his earthly life into eternal rest Friday, February 16, 2018 at his residence. Mr. Watson was born in Lunenburg County, VA on October 21, 1959 to Mary Lucille Watson. He was a graduate of Central High School and a member of Gill Hill Baptist Church, Keysville, VA. Mr. Watson enlisted in the U.S. Army on September 24, 1980. During his 20 years of service, he served in Operation Desert Storm and received numerous awards and commendations including: 8 Army Achievement Medals, 3 Army Commendation medals, 5 overseas service ribbons, 5 Army Good Conduct Ribbons, and a Meritorious Service Medal, a national defense service medal. In 1986, while stationed in Baumholder, Germany, he was selected to become a Mason. He was an active member in lodges in Germany, Washington state, and Virginia. Following his military career, he was employed with Virginia Department of Corrections. He worked as a Correctional Officer providing monitoring, transportation, and security services at Sussex II State Prison. He also was a valued member of prison’s Strike Force team. As a member of the Strike Force he actively responded to all critical events for Virginia Department of Corrections to include, manhunts, searches, and high profile transports. A dedicated Cowboys fan, Mr. Watson enjoyed landscaping, traveling, and attending car shows with his wife. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 31 years, Hazel (DeeDee) Watson of McKenney, VA; one daughter, Charis Squire (Ricky) of Norfolk, VA; three sons, Terrance Jennings of Tacoma, WA, Christopher Songer of San Antonio, TX, and Charles Watson II of McKenney, VA; eight grandchildren, Aiyanna De Pena, Ricky Squire III, Kai Bennett, Madison Valente, Ciana Johnson, Chayton Jennings, Tyrik Johnson, and Sasha Johnson; his mother, Mary Lucille Watson of Keysville, VA; four sisters, Mary Haskins, Kathie Mosely, Brenda Haskins (Vincent), and Annie Elam (Clifton); eight brothers and sisters–in- laws; Ulysses Morton Jennings, Joyce Jennings, Wilson Jennings, Melvin Jennings, Franklin Jennings, John Jennings, Maryland Eames (Paul) and Octavia McCargo (William); devoted friends, Mark Deshields, Patrick Sharp, and Efrem Terrell, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mr. Charles Andrew Watson will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 25, 2018 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City, VA with Rev. Isiah Hurt officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Union Cemetery, Keysville, VA. Public viewing will be held on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
